The Sadowsky Onboard Bass Preamp 4-Knob System is a completely prewired system that offers the same controls and same legendary active preamp as all Sadowsky basses.  This Sadowsky Onboard Preamp is designed for a simple drop-in installation on most J-Style basses with components mounted on the included metal control plate.  On newer active J-style basses with a side jack and a battery compartment there is usually no modifications required.  On passive basses, the only required modification is to move the output jack to the side of the instrument to make room for a battery.  

The Sadowsky Onboard Bass Preamp 4-Knob System includes Volume, Pan (Balance, VTC (Vintage Tone Control), Treble and Bass.  The Treble and Bass control is boost only with a flat response.  The VTC Vintage Tone Control is a passive tone control with the maximum setting is flat while turning it down will cut the tone.  The preamp can be installed with the included control plate or removed and mounted through rear control cavity in either an inline or diamond pattern.  This system is not compatible with active pickups or anything requiring a 250k or 500k volume or balance pot.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Defects or damage resulting from culpable or improper installation as well as the use of unsuitable accessories or tools are excluded from the guarantee. This includes soldering points that are too hot, wrong soldering tin and the resulting damage to the electronics and soldering points.
  • When installing a Sadowsky Onboard Preamp on a MetroExpress bass without a control plate (Modern, Verdine White and M/J models), the holes in the body for the potentiometers must be enlarged. This is because the factory installed potentiometers on the MetroExpress have a smaller diameter than the potentiometers on the Sadowsky Onboard Preamp.
This is not a solderless / screw-down connector preamp.  Some soldering is required for appropriate installation.

Super clean preamp, easy to install!

Super clean preamp. I wish the instructions were more clear on how to connect the ground wires. But there are Youtube videos with Roger Sadowsky showing how to do it. Fret Nation was amazing as always.

I think the Sadowsky Preamp is the best one on the market. I have 4 Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass, and I have replaced all the original Fender preamps with Sadowskys.

Sadowsky VTC preamp

Signature Sadowsky sound coming from my Sadowsky jazz now. Stock pre was good but a bit noisy and lacked the VTC. This one is quite, has more definition and has the VTC. That's significant because the stock is boost only. The VTC offers both passive tone control as well as the ability to roll off [cut] the high end.
