Ken Smith Stainless Steel 6-String 30-130T Rock Master Bass Strings RMM-6T

I've been using OEM strings for my MTD Kingston's for years. Thought I'd stretch out and try some other brands, and this Ken Smith set is where I began. The top 5 strings are stunningly rich and detailed, making the instrument sound even better, IMHO. Only catch would be the "B". Has a more enhanced "bell" tone, almost like a "honk" over and above the fundamental vs the other strings. Very notable sitting in the home studio, anylizing things to death. Not a problem playing live, but that is the one thing that would be a negative over the OEM's. It also could be attributed to the instrument (KZ-6 w/Bart system upgrade). Oddly enough, I threw on the OEM "B" just to see if there was an improvement, and found it's pretty much the same, so went back to the full Smith set and played a show. Once the set is played in for a set or two, things balanced out nicely, and I can't stress enough how much purer the tonality is on all the upper 5 strings, it just seems that fantastic tonality falls a little short on the B, but it's still passable. Tested several other instruments, and found in the $1.5-2.5k instrument category, they all suffer a similar honky ringing bell tone over the fundamental at and above the 5th fret. Pickup height adjustments were of no help. Stay out of the B above the 5th fret, which is natural for me 99% of the time, and we're sounding top notch with these Smiths. Just may be my new fave's ( after I try some Dunlops and DR's, of course!)

Hadn't used ken smith strings in years decided to use these again since I've dropped my basses down to A flat tuning the extra tensioning these strings helps keep my string in tune and not floppy
