Ken Smith Slick Round Bass Strings have an outer winding that starts as a round wound and is ground into a semi flat-wound string. The result is a thick, full sounding string without the brilliant bright high end found on a traditional round wound string. The Nickel Iron Alloy allows for a very long string life.

For half rounds, they sound fairly dull. I would say they sound like flats. I was expecting more dynamic range than what they deliver. Anyway, tried them, and then decided to use La Bella Ian Martin Allison Halfrounds. I like them MUCH better.
They are supposed to be fairly dull, they are not a brilliant sounding string at all. The nickel-iron alloy for one is not a brilliant sounding string but more a chunky full sounding string. The half-round process where they basically shave the outer winding down in half cuts out the brilliance of the string. I think we are confusing dynamics with harmonic content as these strings do not have a brilliant high end like a round wound. These are a direct contrast to the La Bella 'POLISHED' Ian Martin Allison strings. They are a completely different type of compared to half rounds, they polish or 'buff' the stainless steel string. With those strings you have a brilliant string with a little of the edge taken off so they are more homonically rich than the half-rounds. We do also offer the Allison strings for future reference.
So in short, the Slick Rounds are exactly what they were supposed to be, they were just not the kind of string yoy were looking for. In the future, please reach out and we are always happy to help direct you to something that is more what you are looking for.
