Designed with an extra-thin wrapped core near the ball end, the GHS Contact Core Super Steels generate a brighter tone than standard wrapped strings of the same gauge.  The thin segment of the Contact Core Super Steel strings rests on the saddle of the bass bridge.  The Core of the bass string making contact with the bridge gives the GHS Contact Core Super Steels their exceptionally bright tone.  The GHS Contact Core design gives these strings slightly more tension than standard strings.  This is ideal for Low-B strings.

Brighter than the sun

Tried these out because I thought the tapered strings would make the E string closer to the other strings in brightness and I just wanted to try GHS too. The difference is certainly reduced, but what really impressed me were the very audible piano-like overtones, even on a 34 inch bass. Also the outer windings feel a bit smoother than the Daddario ProSteels they replaced. If you want the brightest bass strings, bar none, it's these.
