Great feel and tone!!!
I’ve been a decades long, die hard user of DR guitar, and bass strings. The new Dragon Skin Stainless are my new first choice for bass. The addition of multi-scale lengths is also huge! I primarily play death metal, much of it significantly drop or down-tuned. Often clanky and overdriven or distorted.
These strings feel like they tune to a higher tension than same gauge strings of different models. Maybe placebo? I certainly play as though they're less floppy when heavily drop tuned. They won’t replace gauging heavier for many uses but they might bridge the gap similarly or better compared to DR DDTs.
I’ve used stainless DR Hi-Beams for the last 8 years because they’re bright and resilient for several hours at least. The Dragon Skin coating definitely helps extend that initial window. And, the midrange pinch that’s often the next piece of timbre to finish has a significantly longer window. So much so, I used fewer string sets while tracking a full length album earlier this year. The coating does have tactile difference. I find the difference switching between basses during a set more noticeable than the string coating. But a set - they’re fantastic.
These strings are perfectly designed for Dingwall bass’s.
Been playing the Dingwall strings forever and tried these on a whim. Found a new favorite!
Great experience
